Our guide to taking MacuDopa
Start low
Begin with 1 MacuDopa Day capsule every 3 hours, ideally on an empty stomach. If this gives you good support – such as smoother movement, clearer thinking, and better energy – stay at this level. There is no need to change anything if you feel well supported.
Adjust gently if needed
If you are not fully supported, you can adjust the dose gradually. This may mean taking 1 capsule every 2 hours, or 2 capsules every 3 hours, or if required, 2 capsules every 2 hours. Changes should be made step by step, allowing your body’s response to guide you.
Let your response guide you
There is no fixed schedule and no “standard” dose. Your response to MacuDopa is your dosing guide. The aim is not to reach a specific number of capsules, but to remain mobile, steady, able, and consistently supported.
The three ways to take MacuDopa
1. If you want MacuDopa to be your main source of L-DOPA
A large number of people use MacuDopa this way. It is a decision to make with your neurologist, health care professional or GP, and under their supervision. Synthetic Levodopa medication should not be stopped or reduced abruptly.
If it is something you want to explore, tell your doctor you are considering it and ask them to oversee it. We will provide them with our Certificates of Analysis, full composition, doctor briefing sheet and our clinical lead Max is happy to speak to them directly. Book a free consultation if you would like support preparing for that conversation.
2. Using MacuDopa alongside your medication
The most common place to start. MacuDopa is taken in the gaps between prescribed doses to extend the on time, with the prescription itself left exactly as your doctor set it.
Timing matters more than amount. Mucuna pruriens absorbs best on an empty stomach, 30 to 45 minutes away from protein-rich meals, which compete with it for the same transporter. Begin with one capsule, hold there for a few days, and note how you get on before changing anything.
Tell your doctor you have started, so they have the full picture. Explore MacuDopa products.
3. If you are new to L-DOPA
Build up one step at a time. Day 1, one capsule on waking, on a relatively empty stomach. Day 2, add a second about three hours later. Keep adding a capsule a day until your waking hours are covered, then stay there.
Build outwards across the day before you increase the dose. Note what you take, when, and what you notice, which is what our free support service can help you discuss.
If your waking hours are covered and it still is not right - Max offers a free 15-minute call.
If you were diagnosed recently, tell your neurologist you are taking MacuDopa.
